Our work played a central role in realizing the visual world of this production.
Willem van Oranje — The Musical is a large-scale historical musical based on the epic life of Willem van Oranje (William of Orange), the 16th-century leader of the Dutch Revolt against Spanish rule and a key figure in the formation of the modern Netherlands. The production was developed by a dedicated creative team including director Theu Boermans and presented in the newly constructed Prinsentheater in Delft specifically built for this show.
After years of planning and construction, the musical premiered in early 2026, offering audiences an immersive theatrical journey that blends story, music, and spectacle. The show confronts timeless themes of freedom, identity, and the price of conviction through the lens of one of Dutch history’s most significant figures.
Planet X was responsible for the Stage Visuals for the show. The visual design combines theatrical staging with filmic techniques, integrating physical sets and digital backgrounds into a single, continuous environment.
Projection content is synchronised with the rotating stage and scenography, enabling smooth transitions between locations, time periods and scenes.
