Intertwining Film & Technology
As Virtual Production continues to rise, real-time workflows and traditional VFX workflows are increasingly converging. Planet X understands how its unique approach to visual content creation can not only leverage but also enhance these workflows by working from the same asset source to build realistic environments and scenes.
We are experts in creating virtual worlds, with a specialized team of 'real-time artists'. Planet X’s core team comes from filmmaking backgrounds, and we are drawn to filmmakers and their storytelling aspirations. We have helped numerous filmmakers realize their vision, delivering on the promise of ‘final pixel’ results.
ReadySet Studios
virtual production studio, Amsterdam
Our sister company, ReadySet Studios, founded in 2022, offers a permanent Virtual Production LED studio setup that is always accessible to our teams. This ensures that our continuous R&D efforts remain within the studio, allowing us to consistently innovate and refine our processes without interruption.
Additionally, it enables us to thoroughly test any content in a real VP environment, stress-testing with real-world limitations and gathering valuable feedback for optimal results.
When do you choose VFX, and when is Virtual Production the best approach to bring an idea from script to screen?
Some factors can be quantified, while others, like control, comfort, and safety, are harder to measure but still add significant value in their own way. For the more tangible aspects, we can calculate when virtual production (VP) becomes more advantageous than the traditional visual effects (VFX) alternative.
Both VP and VFX require a one-off investment in a 2D/3D environment or asset.
Virtual production can also be a more sustainable option. By reducing or eliminating the need for travel to multiple locations, VP significantly lowers the carbon footprint of a production. Fewer flights, less transportation of equipment, and reduced energy consumption on location all contribute to a greener production process.
Additionally, the ability to reuse virtual sets and assets across different projects further reduces waste and resource consumption, aligning with sustainability goals.
