Planet X is a visual effects studio based in Amsterdam, founded in 2004. With a team of over 35 specialists, we work on feature films, long-form drama, episodic and immersive productions, focusing on story-driven visual effects from early planning through to final delivery.

In addition to our VFX work, the studio operates a real-time department that supports productions with virtual production workflows and on-set visualisation tools. Planet X is also co-founder of ReadySet Studios, a dedicated virtual production stage equipped with a large-scale LED setup. Through this collaboration, we help bridge the gap between shoot and post, offering productions a more integrated way to approach complex scenes.

Our background is in filmmaking. We work closely with directors, cinematographers and production designers to develop visual solutions that support the story and fit the practical needs of the shoot.

The projects featured on this site reflect the care and attention we bring to each production, and the trust placed in us by filmmakers from around the globe.

Our Amsterdam-based studio

The Netherlands Film Production Incentive, administered by the Netherlands Film Fund (Filmfonds), offers a cash rebate of up to 35% on eligible production costs incurred in the Netherlands. This government-backed scheme aims to enhance the Dutch film industry’s international competitiveness by attracting both domestic and international productions. As a result, Planet X has been increasingly involved in European and international co-productions that leverage this incentive.

Our current studio was built in 2019, designed from the ground up to support the way we work. We approached the layout with our full workflow in mind, aiming to create a space that reflects the structure of our process. From client-facing areas to artist workspaces and review rooms, each part of the studio was shaped by the practical needs of production. Simple considerations, like keeping all client interactions on the ground floor for their convenience, were part of a broader effort to make the space efficient, clear and production-focused.
