Every studio shot could be matched to an appropriate background angle to produce a realistic result.

Next to that we adjusted or replaced elements such as building exteriors and designed and animated numerous screens showing hacking activity of character Alex Eckhardt that were shot on set.

One of the more elaborate VFX scenes includes a collision between a car and a biker. The shot was broken up into multiple passes and combined afterwards. First, the biker did his run, passing the crossing and continuing without any interruption while the camera followed along. In a separate pass, both biker and camera were re-aligned on the exact same spot they should be on impact with the car, but now in a locked off situation. The biker was pulled by a rig and fell unto a stunt mat. In a separate pass, the car came in at great speed and braked for the imaginary biker. All passes were collected and merged together to create the illusion the camera follows the biker and is hit on the crossing in one continuous shot.

Betrayal (‘Overspel’) is a twelve-part psychological thriller on the Dutch television network VARA. Planet X Title Design created the styling of the series: the leader, the logo, the titles and related materials such as the DVD packaging and the DVD menu.

The leader is an abstract photoshoot about “betrayal”, one of the main characters is a photographer.

The concept for the styling of Betrayal originated from the series content and is oriented upon the connections and relationships between the characters.

The background for the leader is a recurring visual element with ‘blooming’ lights suggesting a city. The city is an important and conspicuous decor. This element of the style was therefore made to recur in other styling aspects.

After the basis for this structure was established together with director Frank Ketelaar and producer Robert Kievit, various animation tests were done to determine the timing and the momentum of the leader. The placement of visual elements, such as a ring being removed from a finger and hands holding each other but switching to different people, was painstakingly created in relation to the lines and titles.
