Planet X is looking for a junior system administrator with a passion for technology and a drive to learn. You will help keep our artists productive by ensuring that our hardware, software, and infrastructure run smoothly. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented problem solver who thrives in collaborative environments, learns quickly, sets priorities effectively, and is eager to contribute to the future of real-time and cloud-based production.

Planet X is an internationally acclaimed visual effects house and creative studio based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands that caters to a diverse range of productions, including feature films, episodic series, and immersive experiences. Founded in 2004, Planet X has established itself as the leading visual effects studio in the Netherlands, empowering a team of over 35 specialists to deliver high-end, bespoke, and creative work for long-form drama, feature films, and episodic productions. In addition to our VFX work, Planet X is co-founder of ReadySet Studios, a state-of-the-art virtual production facility, allowing it to bridge real-time workflows with traditional post-production.

system administrator

40 hours per week / on site / start asap

responsibilities

Your work will be a mix of daily support and longer-term projects:

  • Providing hardware and software support to artists.
  • Handling tickets, from low-level issues (logins, printers, workstation fixes) to more complex troubleshooting.
  • Managing creative software licenses and ensuring compliance (Adobe, Autodesk, Foundry, etc.).
  • Setting up and maintaining servers, workstations, storage, and network systems.
  • Writing small scripts and tools (Python, PowerShell, Bash) to automate tasks.
  • Assisting on IT and pipeline projects, with the opportunity to take ownership and lead projects as you grow.
  • Researching, testing, and rolling out new technologies and workflows.
  • You’ll be working in an environment with powerful hardware (render nodes, high-end GPUs, storage clusters, and a multi-VLAN network) that supports our creative pipeline. You’ll get support from senior colleagues, but also plenty of freedom to experiment and develop your skills.

requirements

  • Bachelor-level working and thinking (Dutch HBO)
  • Eager to learn and unafraid to dive into new technologies.
  • Strong communicator, organized, and proactive.
  • Affinity with film and creative industries.
  • Experience with Windows 11.
  • Knowledge of Windows Server (incl. AD, DNS, VPN, RADIUS).
  • Living within 25 km of Amsterdam
Nice to have
  • Experience with macOS Basic
  • Linux knowledge (for servers and render nodes).
  • Virtualization (VMware/Hyper-V/Proxmox).
  • Networking fundamentals (VLANs, switches, firewalls).
  • Storage concepts (NAS, SMB, ZFS, backups, LTO).
  • Python scripting or coding experience.
  • Enthusiasm for hardware (workstations, GPUs, servers, storage).
  • Knowledge of creative software (Adobe, Autodesk, The Foundry).

working hours and location

  • The position will be on-site in Amsterdam.
  • Official office hours are Monday to Friday, 09:00 am to 6:00 pm.
