For this film, we focused on a short final scene composed of intensively restored and colored archive material from 1944. Using techniques from the visual effects industry, the results are better concerning cleaning and sharpening than we are used to with regular restoration. In addition, the coloring process is a challenge from both a historical and technical point of view, but also has a major influence on the impact of the images.
The aim of this post-processing was to also reach young and future generations with 75-year-old footage to show a new perspective on images we've known all our lives.
Due to the restorations researchers are able to identify people in the footage. Read articles about this here and here (Dutch).
